Recently, we had the privilege to sit down with Haley Solar, the designer of one of our favorite brands Junim LA. We ventured up to her inspiring home and work space in the Hollywood hills to learn more about the beautiful line of clothing, her unique dye process, and most importantly the women behind the brand.
Haley is passionate about the work she does. She started her line after working for Anthropologie, and has been moving forward ever since! Her line consists of stunning dresses, rompers, skirts and tops, all manufactured in Los Angeles. Most of the pieces are sewn from high quality silk that is hand- dyed in her Hollywood studio! Her color pallet is inspired by the sky's color at different times of day, including sunrise, sunset, and twilight. Recently, she launched a collection of items for the home including beautiful duvet covers and napkin sets, all in her signature hand-dyed colors.
Watch the video above to learn all about how Junim LA came to be, and read below for an extended interview with the designer!
VDV - Describe yourself in 3 words:
HS - Opinionated. Energetic. Sensitive.
VDV - If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?:
HS - Right now I would go to Hawaii, because I've never been to Hawaii and I love that very kitchie and tropical environment. I know it's not very exotic, and everyone wants to go to Thailand right now and South East Asia, but I really want to go to Hawaii!
VDV - What are you most excited about in your fall collection?:
HS - The biggest thing I am excited about is the midnight color way. It's the new silk color way, it's a really dark sort of moody and contrasted silk. I think that will be really cool to see in the classic pieces.
How would you describe your personal style?:
HS - I would say it's a little bit conflicting. It's a little bit hippie and a little rock and roll. I know those too wouldn't typically hang out together, but I'm a big music person, I'm very inspired by music and I need to have music playing around me all the time. But, I am also fairly simple and I like grounded product, I like sustainable product, and I like to know where my product comes from. So at the end of the day I want to be cute and ready to go anywhere, but I also want to be comfortable and responsible.
Thanks for having us Haley!
