The thirst is real. TOO REAL. Especially here in Southern California, where we're experiencing a brutal heat wave. We know that being so close to the beach warrants almost no complaints but triple digit temps? Not even the most laid back of SoCal attitudes can pretend to be unfazed. Aside from blasting the AC and clocking in plenty of pool time, one of the easiest ways to keep your cool in the summer heat is by staying hydrated.
Staying hydrated is one of those key pieces of advice you've heard from Mom time and time again, but it's actually so important. Even the smallest amount of dehydration can result in dry skin, headaches and fatigue--and it only gets worse come summertime when temperatures soar and you're spending lots of time in the sun.
Experts recommend drinking anywhere between half to one ounce of water per pound of bodyweight each day; so if you weigh 120lbs, you should be drinking 120 ounces of water, which is equal to roughly 3.5 liters. Suffice to say, that's a sh*t ton of water. One of the easiest ways to make drinking enough water more enjoyable though, is by adding fruits, veggies and herbs to infuse flavor. A few lime wedges and some sprigs of mint? You're halfway to a mojito! Ok, so maybe that's a stretch. But we can almost guarantee that once you get a sip of these spiced up H2O infusions, you'll never want to go back to the boring, bland stuff. Here are a few of our favorite infused water concoctions for summer--drink up!
